The country’s top leaders, a superstore that can turn everything into a PR opportunity and people who think they are celebrities all came out strongly against the growing incidents of rape.

“Rape is a crime and it must be taken seriously,” one of the top leaders said. “I really don’t like rape,” another politician said. One leader took it as far as blaming the opposition party of being a “party of rape”, showing just how little they care about the actual matter in hand.

Meanwhile, a superstore, which likes to become a part of any viral video -- be they of rickshaw-pullers or someone having a hard time in life -- also tried to become part of the anti-rape campaign by offering cash rewards to rape survivors. No survivor, however, came forward to get the rewards.

YouTube celebrities also passionately spoke out against rape. Some of these were the same celebrities who had to back-track on their earlier show of support for disenfranchised groups over issues with their sponsors.

In the tri-state area, a protest also broke out against rape, with participants calling for more policing and more surveillance, turning the entire matter into what it really was about: making it harder for those from more economically-disadvantaged backgrounds to access the tri-state area.

The police also cracked down hard on rapists, which should have been their job all along. Law enforcers made a big show of making quick arrests. Of course, it must be pointed out that for the most talked about rape in the tri-state, the culprit was not only granted bail, but had also left the country.

That was another show of how the law differs for people depending on their income.

Calls for capital punishment for rapes have also become more prominent, with many wondering what giving this state such retributive powers would result in. In the end, the discussion has finally gained steam in the country and it is hoped that this time those in power will have more than buzz words and talking points to offer.
