Mosammat Maleka Begum, mother of Birshreshtha Mostafa Kamal, passed away of old-age complications yesterday morning. She was 96 years of age.

She breathed her last at her residence at Moutupi village Alinagar union under Bhola Sadar upazila.

Her namaz-e-janaza will be held at Birshreshtha Mostafa Kamal Eidgah Maidan after Asr prayers today.

On August 18, Maleka was admitted to Bhola Sadar Hospital with anemia, kidney, respiratory and other complications. On August 20, she was flown to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Army helicopter and was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for better treatment.

She was later brought back home on Thursday.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Maleka Begum.

In separate condolence messages, the head of the state and the premier prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
