A sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector of Kotwali police of Barishal Metrapalitan Police (BMP) have been suspended on various charges including negligence in duty and indiscipline.

On Monday night, the two accused policemen were suspended and directed to file a departmental case, confirmed BMP officials and the district’s deputy police commissioner.

Suspended police members are Sub Inspector (SI) Md Bashiruddin and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Md Sharif.

Police Commissioner Md Sahabuddin Khan said that punitive measures have been taken against the two of them for committing irregularities and breaking discipline. At the same time, departmental cases will be filed against them. He said the disciplinary action was taken against them not only due to the recent developments in the Riaj murder case, but also because of anti-disciplinary actions in other cases.

On the morning of April 19, 2019, deed writer Riaj Hawlader was killed with a sharp weapon at his home in Bukhainagar village. His wife Amina Akhtar Liza was arrested after Ripon filed a case against unknown miscreants at Kotwali police station.

Meanwhile, three men were arrested by Inspector Sagir Hossain of Kawnia police station under the same case in mid-August this year, all of whom confessed to the crime.

Liza filed a complaint with the district police commissioner that she was forced to confess to murdering her husband in the face of police brutality, accusing police officers including SI Bashir of torture and molestation.
