Another physician has died of Covid-19 in the country.

Hematologist Prof Col (retd) Md Moniruzzaman breathed his last at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Sunday evening.

He is the second coronavirus positive physician to die in the country, Nirupam Das, chief administrator of Bangladesh Doctors’ Foundation, said yesterday.

Kawser Ahmed, cousin of the deceased, said he was suffering from fever for the last two days, but he did not have any other visible symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

“On Sunday, he felt chest pain and thought maybe it was a cardiac issue. He was then taken to CMH where he died,” he added.

On Sunday night, the hospital authorities confirmed that he was Covid-19 positive, Kawser told The Daily Star, adding that the other family members “were sick and in isolation at home”.

Prof Moniruzzaman, in his 60s, worked at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital and was also involved in three other private hospitals in the capital, said Prof Md Eklasur Rahman, principal of the medical college.
