Mohammad Omar Faruque, deputy director of SCI’s HIV programme, met with a dreadful accident on April 13, 2019. The bike carrying him was hit by a truck, which then ran over the lower part of his body, smashing his hip bone.

After nine months in hospitals in Dhaka and Bangkok and eight grueling operations, Faruq has graduated from bed to wheelchair. However, it took the family all its savings, and yet it was not enough. Finally, their family and friends stepped in to raise a total of around Tk 50 lakh.

However, another Tk 50 lakh is needed in treatment cost if Faruque is to get back to full health and start living a normal life with his wife and two sons. With this money, Faruq can return to his former, beaming self, sporting his trademarked smile, said relatives and friends, who requested the well-off sections of society to lend a helping hand.
