Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary yesterday said his forces are ready to prevent any sort of anarchy centring the upcoming general election.

"I want to say that any move to create anarchy, chaos and act of sabotage or attempt to make the country unstable in the name of movement will be dealt with a strong hand," he said while replying to a query after attending a programme in Dhaka.

He said law enforcers are capable of tackling any situation and have taken enough preparation to this end.

At the programme at Police Staff College in Mirpur, the IGP handed over crests, certificates and cheques to the children of police personnel for their brilliant results in SSC and equivalent examinations.

Meanwhile, police have formed a committee to look into a survey report that found the law enforcement agencies as the most corrupt service sector in the country, reports UNB quoting the IGP.

Javed Patwary said he came to know about the report through the media but has not read it yet. He said he will be able to comment after reading the report.

Earlier on August 30, the TIB survey revealed that the law enforcement agencies are the most corrupt service sector

(72.5pc), followed by the Department of Immigration and Passport (67.3pc) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (65.4pc).

About the arrest of BNP leaders, the IGP said, “The arrests of BNP men have no relation to the election. Police arrest only those who are accused in different cases or have arrest warrants against them. “

Additional Inspector General (human resources and management) Mohsin Hossain presided over the programme where Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and Principal of Police Academy Nazibur Rahman were also present.
