An indefinite strike called by Chuadanga transport owners and workers entered the sixth day yesterday, causing immense sufferings to passengers.

Due to the situation, a large number of people in Chuadanga have to travel to other districts, including Dhaka, through adjacent districts like Kushtia, Meherpur and Jhenidah.

Rafiqul Islam of Chuadanga town managed a ticket of Dhaka-bound SB Paribahan in Kushtia through one of his relatives.

"Yesterday morning, I had come to Kushtia renting a private car from Chuadanga," said Rafiqul.

Like Rafiqul, many people who need to go different places in the country from Chuadanga are facing similar experiences.

Chuadanga district unit of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad called the strike on Thursday after an altercation took place between Bus Minibus Owner's Association of two adjacent districts— Jhenidah and Chuadanga- over fixing route of a newly launched transport.

Nasir Joarder, general secretary of Bus Minibus Owners' Association in Chuadanga, said Royal Express in Chuadanga recently launched two buses to run between Meherpur to Patuakhali.

But plying of the buses was being barred by the Bus Minibus Owner's Association in Jhenidah, Nasir said, adding that "Even the counter of the bus was removed from Jhenidah town."

Due to the strike, transport movement from all 13 routes in the district is off. As a result, people are being affected severely.
