A Comilla court placed two BNP-backed ward councillors on a one-day remand each in a case filed for "instigating a student movement to tarnish the image of the government".

The court passed the order after the accused - Golam Kibria and Siddikur Rahman Suruz, councillors of ward 1 and 20 respectively -were produced before it with a seven-day remand prayer, said police.

On Sunday, detectives arrested Kibria in the city's Palpara area and Suruz in Unaishar.

Same day, detectives from Dhaka also arrested Mizanur Rahman Naomi, son of councillor Siddikur Rahman, in Barura upazila of Comilla for his alleged phone conversion with BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, said police.

Later, police filed a case against 14 people including the two on the same charges with Kotwali Model Police Station.

Earlier, on Saturday, Amir Khasru was sued after a recorded phone conversation, presumably between him and Naomi, went viral on the social media.

He was accused of "attempting to create anarchy", said police.
