A coastguard team seized about three lakh shrimp fry from a truck in Lebukhali ferry ghat area under Dumki upazila in the district on Patuakhali-Barisal road and arrested two persons in this connection.

The arrestees are Rafiqul Islam, 25, driver of the truck, and helper Al Amin, 29.

Later a mobile court conducted by Executive Magistrate Shabekunnahar, also upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Patuakhali Sadar, fined the arresteesTk 5,000 each.

"Following a tip, we conducted the drive and seized a truck that was going to Khulna from Galachipa upazila town with three lakh shrimp fry kept in plastic drums. Later the mobile court fined the truck driver and his helper," said Md Moniruzzaman, commander of Patuakhali contingent of coastguard.

All the fry were released into the Payra river, he said.
