A woman was killed over a land dispute at Amgachhia village in Boalmari upazila under the district yesterday.

The deceased, Momtaz Begum, 55, wife of Yunus Sheikh of Bakhunda village in Sadar upazila, went to visit her younger sister's Amgachhia house on Monday.

There was a longstanding conflict between Abul Kalam Khayer and Rustom Sheikh over a land beside Rustom's house, locals said.

Rustom's son Saydul Sheikh said, "When we went to catch fish on the land in the morning, Khayer's brother Harun Sheikh and their men attacked us and tried to take me with them. As my aunt Momtaz tried to resist, they stabbed her with sharp weapons, killing heron the spot."

Contacted over phone, Khayer said he and his brother have no connection with the murder.
