The suspended general manager of Bangladesh Railway's (BR) east zone, Yusuf Ali Mridha, was freed from Chittagong jail on bail on Sunday night in two corruption cases over the recruitment in goods assistant and court inspector positions.

Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mir Ruhul Amin granted his bail in the cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said Mridha's lawyer Rezaul Karim Chowhdury.

With these, Mridha has secured bail in all 11 cases filed over recruitment irregularities in different posts of BR.

ACC's Public Prosecutor Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury said Mridha was accused in a total of 13 cases over irregularities in recruitment.

Of them, Mridha along with two others was sentenced by a Chittagong court to three years of imprisonment in two cases over irregularities in the recruitment of assistant chemist and fuel checker.

Of the remaining cases, four are under trial, two are under investigation and charge-sheets were submitted in the rest five.

Mridha was suspended on April 15, 2012, a week after he was caught with Tk 70 lakh inside the Pilkhana headquarters of Border Guard Bangladesh. The money was allegedly collected from railway job seekers.
