Students of seven colleges that are affiliated with Dhaka University yesterday postponed their demonstration till November 30 after the DU vice chancellor assured them of publishing their results of honours final-year examinations by that time.

The assurance came when a student team met VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman at his office around noon.

"We've already announced all the exam schedules and taken necessary measures to meet their other demands. We're taking time to publish results as the examinations were held under the National University," he told the students.

"With the technical help from the NU, we hope to publish it as early as possible," he said, adding that the process for creating separate websites and preparing academic calendars for all of the colleges is underway.

Faizur Mehedi, a fourth year student of Government Kabi Nazrul College, said They

will take to the streets again if their demands are not met by that time.

On Sunday, several hundred students of the seven colleges demonstrated by blocking the Nilkhet intersection for nine hours to press home their five-point demand, including the publishing of the results, causing severe traffic congestion.

More than 1.67 lakh honours and masters students are enrolled in the colleges -Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Sha heed Suhrawardy Government College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Titumir Government College.

The colleges were affiliated with the DU on February 16 this year. This affiliation came after the prime minister on August 31, 2014 directed the education ministry' to affiliate the colleges under public or autonomous universities in order to reduce the pressure of the NU.
