Students of mechatronics department of three polytechnic institutes - Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj and Magura - demonstrated in front of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute in Rajshahi city yesterday, demanding re-evaluation of their answer scripts.
In the programming language course examination of 4th semester under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB), all 350 examinees from the three institutes failed as questions were given out of the syllabus, said the demonstrators.
Over a hundred of them took part in a human chain alongside a rally. They demanded removal of the controller of examinations of the board for his negligence in this regard.
The agitating students said they had appeared in the course exami-
nation on June 4. But to their surprise, they found that the questions were not from the syllabus.
Then the students decided to come out of the exam centres, but they backtracked on the decision as the institutions concerned, after consulting with the board authorities, assured them of evaluating their answer scripts liberally, said the agitators.
However, when the resulst came out on October 1, all of them discovered that they had failed in the course, they said.
One of the demonstrating students questioned: "Why should I pay the price for others' mistakes?"
He said some of the students would drop out of the institutes if they don't pass the course.

the students' demands are "logical".
He hoped the board authorities would come up with a solution in this regard.
Contacted, Dr Sushil Kumar Paul, controller of examinations of BTEB, said they did not receive any written complaint before.
Yesterday, they received a complaint from the students of Chapainawabganj Polytechnic Institute and held a meeting the same day, said Sushil.
Acknowledging the mistake, he said, "We have been able to identify the problem now. A decision to re-evaluate the answer scripts will soon be taken. Hopefully, the decision will go in favour of the students."
