Students and teachers of different educational institutions of Sakhipur upazila yesterday demanded capital punishment to the criminal who raped a college girl keeping her confined in his unused house for over six months.

They made the demand at a human chain programme at the upazila headquarters.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organised the programme at Foara Chattar participated by students and teachers of Sakhipur Residential Women's College, PM Pilot Girls' High School, PM Pilot Boys' High School and College, Surja Tarun School and College, Sakhipur Ideal Girls' High School and Udayan High School and members of Upazila Ladies Club.

Sakhipur Upazila Mahila Parishad President Prof Muslima Khatun condemned the barbaric incident and demanded capital punishment to the rapist while speaking at the programme.

Police arrested Badal from Mirzapur upazila on August 4 and he was produced before the judicial magistrate’s court the following day that sent him to jail after his confessional statement.
