Import of Indian cattle through Shibganj upazila under the district sees a boost for the last two months, thanks to the arrangement of normal trade through the border.

The Indian cattle traders are sending 3000 to 3500 cattle daily as the border situation is normal, local traders said, adding that the flow of cattle from India increased in last two months on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Unlike the previous year, cattle markets at Wahedpur and Roghunathpur in Shibganj are now abuzz with activities.

Mostly, cattle from Murshidabad and Maida in Pashchimbanga enter Chapainawabganj through Kansat corridor, cattle traders said.

"We can bring cattle easily from the zero line as Indian Border Security Force does not interfere,” said Mozammel Haque, a cattle trader of Bish Roshia village in Shibganj upazila.

Several other cattle traders including Mohammad Babu of Shyampur village echoed the same.

Cattle traders pay Tk 100 to a man for bringing a cow from the zero line, one kilometre away from Wahedpur.

Cowshed owner Isarul Haque Situ said cattle are available at Wahedpur as the flow of cattle from India is normal.
