ACC charges six govt surveyors

Anti-Corruption (Commission yesterday submitted a charge sheet in a case filed against six government surveyors and three others for allegedly misappropriating Tk 38 lakh.
Meanwhile, in two separate cases, ACC yesterday arrested two persons including an assistant upazila education officer of Feni from Chittagong and Feni.
ACC also approved a charge-sheet in a case against two officials of district account office of Cox's Bazar and three former and current officials of Sonali Bank over misappropriating Tk 1.42 crore.
Man held with 9kg gold at airport
UNB, Dhaka
Customs officials arrested a passenger with nine gold bars weighing 9kg, worth around Tk 4.6 crore, at the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday.
Sirajul Islam, 41, landed in Dhaka from Malaysia via Bangkok by a flight of Bangkok Airways. Noticing his suspicious movement, customs officials searched him and found the gold, said customs sources.
Polythene seized, factory sealed

The Department of Environment (DoE) sealed off an illegal polythene factory in Baizid Bostami area of Chittagong city yesterday.
DoE officials also seized 700kg of banned polythene bags from the factory, Sharnima Carton.
DoE Officer Khandokar Mohammad Tahajut Ali said during the drive the owner and the workers of the factory mananged to flee. The factory was fined twice in the last two years.
Journo Vojohori passes away

Vojohori Kundu, a prominent journalist of Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali, died of a cardiac arrest on Wednesday. He was 56.
He left behind his mother, wife and two daughters.
Vojohori, the upazila correspondent of the daily Sokaler Khobor, was also former secretary of Kalapara Press Club.
He was cremated yesterday at the central crematorium in Kalapara.
Vojohori died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, family sources said.
Local journalists and elite, including Kalapara municipality Mayor Bipul Howlader, expressed deep shock at the death.
