The 50th convocation of Dhaka University (DU) will be held tomorrow with more than 17,875 graduates and postgraduates getting their degrees.

President Abdul Hamid, chancellor of the university, will inaugurate the event at DU central playground.

Around 61 researchers will be conferred Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees while 43 will get Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degrees. Also, 80 students will receive gold medals for their outstanding results.

All the preparations have been completed, said DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday at a press conference.

Prof Amit Chakma, Bangladesh-born academician and Vice Chancellor of Western University, Canada, will be the convocation speaker.

At the event, DU will honour Prof Amit Chakma with "Doctor of Science (ScD)" degree for his outstanding leadership role in education and research, Prof Arefin told The Daily Star.
