Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque yesterday asked police members to help journalists perform their duties.

“Journalists work for public and activities of the government or nongovernment organisations come to light through the media so we will have to support them perform their duties," the IGP said while talking to reporters at Ashulia Kobirpur in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.

When asked about the recent assault on the journalists, he said those responsible will be given departmental punishment.

Earlier, he joined the inaugural ceremony of “Kobirpur Firing Range" as the chief guest.
