The High Court yesterday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain under what authority Hafizur Rahman alias Tipu Munshi is discharging duties as an acting chief engineer of Public Works Department.

The HC in the rule asked the authorities to show cause as to why his "fake" freedom fightercertificateshouldnotbecancelled.

The authorities were also asked to explain why his name should not be cancelled from a gazette notification containing the names of freedom fighters.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath issued the rule following a petition challenging legality of holding the acting chief engineer's office by Munshi.

Lawyer Md Tareque Hasan Khan filed the petition, saying that Munshi's service was extended for three years on submission of the certificate that, according to Khan, was found fake in an investigation by the liberation war affairs ministry.
