The nationwide Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2016 came to a close on Saturday evening, with the recognition of the best films.

At the closing ceremony held at the National Theatre Hall auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed attended as chief guest, while Cultural Secretary Akhtari Momtaz, cultural personality Mofidul Haq, chairman of Federation of Film Societies Bangladesh Lailun Nahar Shemi, and film

researcher Fahmidul Haque were also present. BSA director general Liaqat Ali Lucky presided over the programme, while BSA secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury delivered the welcome address.

In the short films category, "Poth" directed by Md. Abid Mallik was adjudged best film by the five-member jury; Sadat Hossain was named best director for "The Shoes" and Md. Mamunur Radhid Srabon's "Mati'r Pakhi" won the special jury award. In documentaries, Maqbul Chowdhury's "Not A Penny Not A Gun" was named best film, Farzana Bobby was awarded

best director for "Bishkanta" and Fouzia Khan's "Je Golper Shesh Nei" was awarded the special jury award. The winners were awarded crests, certificates and cash prizes, while filmmakers whose films were screened at the festival bagged certificates.

A total of 84 films were screened at the festival, across the 64- district Shilpakala Academies from October 2. The festival was organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and assisted by Federation of Film Societies Bangladesh, Bangladesh Short Film Forum and Bangladesh Documentary Film Association.
