3 of a family held over 'militancy'

Rapid Action Battalion detained a personal secretary of a government official and two of the former's family members in his Basupara residence in Khulna city on Wednesday night for their alleged involvement in militancy.

They were interrogating the detainees at their office, said Khandaker Rafiqual Islam, director of Rab-6.

Reconsider diplomatic ties with Pakistan: Workers Party

The Workers' Party of Bangladesh yesterday demanded the government reconsider maintaining diplomatic relations with Pakistan, says a press release.

It also urged the government to try 195 identified Pakistani army officials for committing crimes during the Liberation War in 1971. An ally of Awami league-led alliance, the party made the demand a day after Pakistan's parliament condemned the execution of war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islam leader Mir Quasem Ali.

Bangladesh-China Foundation for Future launched

Friends from Bangladesh and China yesterday launched a new platform, “Bangladesh-China Foundation for

Future”, in Dhaka focusing on lasting youth links between the two countries and promoting people-to-people contact for mutual benefit.

Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Ma Mingqiang and Chairman of the foundation lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury spoke at the launching ceremony at Sonargaon Hotel. Dr Rizvi said the platform will help build bridges between the two countries.

The Chinese envoy described the cooperation between the two nations as a win-win situation.
