Though the sale of rice at Tk 10 per kg under a government scheme for five million poor families across the country has been launched, those of Sylhet are yet to start enjoying the benefit, as the district food controller's office has not completed listing them.

Some 50,330 families of the district's 12 upazilas will be enjoying the benefit under the scheme inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Kurigram on Wednesday.

According to the food controller's office, 75 percent of the listing work has so far been completed, but as some upazilas failed to submit their lists, they were not being capable of distributing the rice. They also appointed at total of 105 dealers; each distributing the rice among 500 families.

The district food controller, Md Riyajur Rahman Raju, hoped to start their distributing work soon after the Eid.
