At least 2,245 people were killed and 6,031 injured in 2,082 road accidents in the first seven months (January to July) of the year across the country. Of the deceased, 311 were children and 301 women. A non-government organisation, the National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways, has collated the figures by monitoring 12 national dailies, 12 regional newspapers, and six online news portals.
