A Dhaka court yesterday placed Daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman on a five-day fresh remand in a case filed over alleged plot to kill prime minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar Hui passed the order after Detective Branch senior Assistant Commissioner Hasan Arafat, also investigation officer of the case, produced Mahmudur before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.

Mahmudur was produced on completion of his five-day remand he was placed on on April 25 in the first phase.

In the yesterday's remand prayer, the IO said Mahmudur gave important information about the conspiracy to abduct and kill Joy. On his information, the investigation was going and it was being verified. So, he should be quizzed further.

Opposing the remand plea, the defence said DB did not follow the directives of the High Court during the remand period, even

though Mahmudur had been suffering from different ailments. So, their client should be granted bail.

The case was filed by DB Inspector Fazlur Rahman with Paltan Police Station in August last year.

According to the case statement, Caesar's father Mohammad Ullah Mamun, vice-president of BNP's cultural wing Jasas, and some top leaders of the BNP and its allies met in the UK, the US and Bangladesh before September 2012 and conspired to abduct and kill the PM's son.

In March last year, Caesar was convicted by a US court for bribing an FBI special agent to collect information about a Bangladeshi political figure.

The US Justice Department did not name the figure, but it is believed to be Joy.
