Cop held with Yaba

Law enforcers arrested a policeman and two other drug peddlers with 300 Yaba tablets in front of Bhangura Women's College in Bhangura upazila under the district on Tuesday night. The arrestees are Golam Sarwar, 35, a constable of Rajshahi Jugipara police camp, Shuvo, 18, of Baghmara upazila, and Tariqul Isalm, 26, of Tanore upazila in Rajshahi. Informed that a gang of drug peddlers were trying to sell the Yaba a police team raided the area and arrested the three, said police.

Four 'robbers1 arrested

Police on Tuesday arrested four accused in a case for committing robbery at a house in Chilmari upazila of the district. The arrestees are Suzan Mia, 20, Rabiul Islam, 21, Nur Alom, 22, ofRangpur district, and Aminul Islam, 58, a member of Dharnibari Union Parishad in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram. The case was filed with Chilmari Police Station on February 13, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Masud Alam.

6 fined for taking drug

A mobile court fined six youths Tk 1500 each for taking drug in Singair upazila of the district on Monday night. The convicts are Shaidul Islam, 20, Riajul Islam, 19, Enamul Haque, 19, Joynal Hossain, 20, of Kangsha village, Sadman, 19, and Rubel, 20, of Ajimpur village in the upazila. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Jahidul Islam led the court, said police.

Youth electrocuted

A youth was electrocuted in Hakimpur upazila of the district yesterday. The deceased was identified as Razu Islam, 24, son of late Monsur Ali of Modhya Basudevpur village in the upazila. Locals said when the youth climbed a coconut tree he came in contact with a snapped electric wire. He died on the spot.

Journo hurt in attack

A journalist was injured in an attack by criminals in Sobhanighat area of Sylhet city on Tuesday night. The injured is Masrur Rasel, staff reporter of the 'Dainik Pravat Bela'. Police said a gang of 12/15 identifying themselves as students of Darus Sunnah lakubia Madrasa entered the office of the daily in the area and vandalised the furniture. When Masrur tried to stop them, they beat him, leaving him injured.

Touchstone statue seized

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police in a drive seized a touchstone statue of Lord Bishnu, weighing about 148 kg, from a mango orchard at Sonadoho village in Gomostapur upazila of the district on Sunday. On secret information, a team of BGB and police, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer AM Alamgir Kabir raided the orchard and recovered the touchstone statue worth about Tk 1.48 crore, said Lt Col Jahid Hasan, commanding officer of BGB-43 Battalion. However, none was arrested in this connection.
