The results of last year's Ebtedai terminal and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) exams under the madrasa education board turned out to be worse than that of 2014, both in terms of the pass rate and GPA-5 achievers.

In Ebtedai exams, the pass rate was 95.13 percent, 0.85 percentage points less than that of 2014. The pass rate in JDC exams dropped by 1.04 percentage points, from 93.50 percent in 2014 to 92.46 percent in 2015.

According to the results published yesteiday, 5,473 students secured GPA-5 in Ebtedai exams, a continuous decline from 6,541 in 2014 and 7,253 in 2013.

The results of JDC exams also saw a sharp decline in GPA-5 achievers, 8,761 in last year against 19,290 in 2014.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said thereason for the poor show of students was not analysed yet as the results were just published.

The number of class V madrasa students who took the Ebtedai exams was also lower compared to 2014. A total of 2,64,134 students took the exams last year against 2,65,974 in 2014.

Although fewer girls sat the exams than boys, their average pass rate of 95.17 percent was slightly better than that of the boys' 95.09 percent.

A total of 12,868 students came out unsuccessful last year against 10,701 students in 2014.

As many as 3,06,196 students registered for the Ebtedai exams from 11,549 madrasas.

The Rajshahi division had the highest pass rate (97.88 percent) among the seven divisions while Chuadanga with a pass rate of 85.95 percent continued to be the district with the lowest pass rate like in 2014.

Atotalof3,43,190 students, including 1,82,777 girls, from 9,080 institutions took the JDC exams. The number of examinees was 31,650 more than that of2014.

With a pass rate of 92.90 percent, the girls outperformed the boys who had a pass rate of 91.96 percent. As regards to GPA-5 achievers, 4,547 are girls and 4,124 boys.
