An accused on a two-day remand in a human trafficking case gave a sub-inspector (SI) the slip and escaped in the capital on Thursday some time after being brought out without handcuffs from Pallabi Police Station's lockup around 8:30pm.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dadan Fakir told The Daily Star that SI Zillur Rahman has been closed for not handcuffing Atiqur Rahman, aged around 30, before taking him out from the ground floor lockup.

A case has been filed against Atiqur over the escape.

The SI, also the trafficking case's investigation officer, took Atiqur to the station's first floor and “realised some time later" that the accused had escaped, added the OC without elaborating.

A Dhaka court on December 9 granted the remand, which began the next day.

Police said Atiqur and four men were arrested while a woman was rescued from a house on Avenue 5 in Mirpur 11 on Decembers.
