The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child will begin its 70th session in Geneva on September 14 to review children's rights in nine countries, including Bangladesh.

Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Poland, Timor Leste, and the United Arab Emirates are the other countries.

The committee, composed of 18 independent experts, monitors how states that have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) are complying. The 19-day review will continue till October 2, says a UN release.

Bangladesh's situation will be reviewed on September 15-16 when the government will submit its country report. Bangladesh last submitted its report in 2012.

Besides the government report, six civil society organisations from Bangladesh will also submit alternative reports. The organisations are: Child Rights Advocacy Coalition in Bangladesh, Childreach International and Phulki, Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children, Manusher Jonno Foundation, and Children of the state and Asia Dalit Rights Forum & South Asia Equity working Group.
