The Dhaka Wasa has undertaken three mega projects to collect 70 percent of the city's demand for water from surface sources by 2020, said LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashrafiil Islam yesterday.

"Dhaka Wasa is advancing towards producing water from surface sources instead of underground aquifers for building an environment and consumer-friendly sustainable water supply management," he said replying to a query in parliament.

The minister said the Padma (Jashaldia) Water Treatment Project1' will supply 45 crore litres of water per day while the "Gandharbpur Water Treatment Project” 50 crore litres from the Meghna river and the “Sayedabad Water Treatment Project (Phase-3)" 45 crore litres of additional water from the Megha river.

The Dhaka Wasa has earned capacity of producing 242 crore litres of water against the demand of 225-230 crore litres in the capital, he said.
