Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed her party's lawmakers to mobilise public opinion in every constituency against the "BNP-Jamaat's violence and politics of killing”.

Addressing a meeting of the Awami League Parliamentary Party at the Jatiya Sangsad, she assured the lawmakers that there is nothing to worry about the present situation, as the government would do whatever is necessary to contain the ongoing violence.

Hasina, also the AL chief, advised the MPs not to overreact to any issue relating to the BNP.

"Rather, raise mass awareness in your localities, point to the BNP-Jamaat's violence and politics of killing, and stay alert to any subversive activities,” she was quoted by a law-

maker as saying.

Contacted, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon, MP from Joypurhat-2, said, "The prime minister has asked us to go to our constituencies during parliament's recess and build up public opinion against the BNP-Jamaat's violence and criminal activities."

Replying to Social Welfare Minister Mohsin Ali's proposal for holding the SSC exams during hartal taking it as a challenge, Hasina said the exams have been deferred considering safety and security of the students and their parents.

The PM also turned down Suranjit Sengupta's proposal for suspending the parliament session for two weeks to build resistance against violence.

Addressing the meet, AL stalwart Tofail Ahmed said what BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been doing is nothing but acts of terrorism.
