Chiitagong Hill Tracts Regional Council Chairman Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma yesterday reiterated the demand for full implementation of the peace accord.

"Seventeen years have elapsed, no proper initiative has yet been taken for full execution of CHT peace deal," said Bodhirpiya, popularly known as Santu Larma, while addressing a meeting, marking the 31st death anniversary of Manabendra Narayan Larma, founder of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS).

Foundation in the hall room of district Shilpakola Academy, the meeting was also addressed by Sneha Kumar Chakma, member of CHTRC, Arun Kami Chakma, sadar upazila chairman, Mong Shanoo Chowdhury, Bijoy Keton Chakma, Shishir Chakma, and Ranjit Dewan.

Santu Larma said the government is going to set up a medical college and a science and technology university in Rangamati despite opposition from hill people. If any unpleasant incident takes place in the region, the government will take the responsibility, he said.

Santu requested jumma people to stay united to realise their demands.

Earlier on the day, a procession was brought out from the premises of Rangamati municipality office. Local unit of PCJSS, Mohila Samity, Juba Samity, Hill Women's Federation and Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) joined the procession.

PCJSS and its associate bodies, different cultural, professional and business organizations placed floral wreaths at the portrait of MN Larma on the premises of Shilpakola Academy.

In Bandarban, PCJSS and

its front organisations observed the death anniversary of MN Larma.

Addressing a memorial meeting in the town, the speakers reiterated their demands for full implementation of the peace accord and constitutional recognition of the indigenous people in the hill region, reports our correspondent.

KS MongMarma, member of PCJSS central committee, was the chief guest at the function.

Among others, JumlianAmlai, KhySwePrue, Dendohajalai, and U Chaw Sing Marma, spoke at the programme with Sadhuram Tripura, president of PCJSS Bandarban district unit, in the chair.
