2 held with arms, ammo

Law enforcers arrested two youths along with arms and bullets at Omarpur village in Shibganj upazila on Wednesday. The arrestees were identified as Sumon Ali, 32, of Chakdaultpur village and Mehedi Hasan, 25, of Lagatpara village of the upazila. Additional director of Borer Guard Bangladesh-9 Major Sheikh Md Mizanur Rahman said tipped off, a BGB team raided the area around 5:00pm. Sensing their presence, the duo tried to flee firing a shot at the BGB. Later, the BGB men arrested them with the help of local people and recovered one pistol, three bullets and a magazine from their possession. The arrestees were later handed over to Shibganj police.
Notorious criminal held

Villagers of Boidyerghona in the Sadar upazila in the district yesterday rounded up Ripon, a notorious criminal, along with arms and handed him over to police. During the incident, members of the 'Ripon gang' fired on the villagers, leaving five people bullet injured.
Boy killed in roof collapse

A teenage boy was killed and 10 people were injured when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed on them at Patadhoapara in Rajibpur upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, 14, son of Adam Ali of the village. Local people said villagers of Kauniar char and Joaner Char arranged a cricket match near the under-construction building of a community clinic in the area. The roof of the clinic collapsed on some people standing there for watching the cricket match around 11 am, leaving 11 people injured. The injured were rushed to Rajibpur Uapzila Health Complex where doctors declared Aminul dead.
Smuggled clothes seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled Indian sarees and three-piece sets from a truck in Shuvopur Bridge area in Chhagalnaiya upazila on Wednesday morning. Major Mohammad Shamim Iftekhar, acting commanding officer of BGB-4 Battalion, said being tipped off when BGB members tried to halt a truck in the area its driver fled the scene leaving behind the truck. Later, the BGB team recovered 1165 pieces of Indian sarees and 90 sets of salwar-kameez worth Tk 63 lakh from the truck.
Youth murdered in Nilphamari

A youth was killed following an altercation over a disputed land at Sabujpara village in Jaldhaka upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain,30, son of late Khajrat Ali. Police said, when one Jahedul Islam of the village went to a disputed land to cut bamboo, his rival Rafiqul obstructed him claiming the ownership of the land which led to an altercation between them. As Alamgir came forward to stop the altercation, Rafiqul got furious and hit him with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot. Police arrested Rafiqul, his wife Sahela and son Rajab Ali following the incident.
Help for flood-hit people

Jamalpur Association in Dhaka distributed construction materials for dwelling houses among 100 flood-affected families of six upazilas of Jamalpur district yesterday. The construction materials were distributed among. 55 families of Islampur upazila, 15 ofDewanganj, 10 of Sadar, 10 of Madarganj, 8 of Bakshiganj and 2 of Sharishabari upazila. Every family got 2 bundles of corrugated iron sheets worth 9200 taka, 10 concrete pillars worth 2500 taka and cash 3300 taka for construction expenditure.
Easy bike driver killed

Criminals have killed an easy bike driver at Kanchatala bazaar under Kaliganj upazila. The deceased is Mozam Ali, 30 son of Sabed Ali of Shibnagar village under the upazila. His father Sabed Ali said, his son maintained his family by working hard. He demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits. Officer in charge (OC) Anwar Hossain of Kaliganj police station said, on Friday night at around 11-30 pm a gang hired his easy bike posing as passengers from Kaliganj upazila town. When they reached near the brick field in Norendrapur village, they killed him and left the body on the spot.
