The High Court yesterday extended the bail of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in two murder cases after two petitions were filed by him.

An HC bench extended the bail of Fakhrul for next one year in a case filed in connection with the killing a traffic constable, Ferdous Khalil, after torching a police vehicle in the capital's Bangla Motor on last December 24 during an anti-government demonstration of the then BNP-led of 18-party alliance.

Earlier in March, it granted him bail for six months in the case.

Another HC bench extended the bail of Fakhrul till disposal of the rule in another case filed in connection with the

November 28 attack on a passenger bus near Shishu Park in the capital during the BNP's blockade. At least 19 people were injured in the incident, and later four of them died in the hospital.

This court issued the rule in April seeking explanation from the government why Fakhrul should not be granted regular bail in this case, his lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star. He said the BNP leader has got bail in all the 21 cases filed against him.
