Police recovered the body of an unidentified man, aged about 35, from a water body in the district town beside Feni Sadar Model Police Station yesterday. Locals found the body floating on the water body and informed the police, said Kamal Hossian, sub-inspector of Feni Sadar Model Police Station. Criminals might have killed the man and dumped the body in the water body, said the SI. The body bore several injury marks, he added.

Youth stabbed to death

Masked criminals stabbed a youth to death in Guho Road area under Srimangal upazila early yesterday. Deceased Kawsar Mia, 20, son of Siddeque Ali of Baniarchang upazila in Habiganj district, was a construction worker. He used to live at a rented house in the area. Police said a gang of 4/5 stabbed Kawsar, leaving him seriously injured while he was returning home from his workplace. He was rushed to Srimangal Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctors declared him dead. Abdul Jalil, office in-charge of Srimangal Police Station, said Kawsar might have been killed over previous enmity.

Fake medicine factory unearthed

A mobile court unearthed a fake medicine factory and seized medicines worth Tk 2 lakh in BSIC Industrial area of Joypurhat district on Wednesday. The court, led by Abu Raihan Dolon, Nejarat Deputy Collector (NDC) of Joypurhat, also sealed-off the factory and fined its owner Tk 15 thousand, police said. Sukorno Ahmed, drug superintendent of Joypurhat, said the factory had been producing drugs illegally for long.

Man killed by drug addict son

An elderly man was beaten to death allegedly by his drug addict son at Panirjhiri village in Alikadam upazila on Wednesday night. The deceased is Uthaiu, 55, a resident of the area. The incident took place when Uthaiu tried to resist his son Keykey Nu, from beating his wife around 10:00pm. At one stage Keykey hit his father with a stick in the head, leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed Uthaiu to Alikadam Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Woman drug peddler held

UNB, Dinajpur

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a drug peddler along with 890 bottles of Indian Phensidyl from a house in Sundara Jaliapara of the district town on Wednesday. The arrestee was identified as Sabina Begum, 34, a resident of the area. Officer in-charge Redwanur Rahim of Dinajpur DB said on secret information, they conducted a raid in the house of Sabina in the area at about 9:30 am and arrested her. Later, the detectives recovered 890 bottles of Indian Phensidyl after searching the house. A case was filed in this connection.
