Over 50 people have been sued on charges of attacking the houses and business establishments of rival Awami League men in Gouripur upazila town.

The accused include councillors of Gouripur municipality Mofazzal Hossain and Abul Quadir.

Joint secretary of the upazila unit AL Md Nurul Islam, central Jubo league member Abu Kawsar Chowdhury and Shah Rafiqul Islam Dipu, nephew of local lawmaker Captain (retd) Mujibur Rahman Fakir, filed three cases under Speedy Trial Act on Saturday night.

A group of men, allegedly led by municipality Mayor Rafiqul Islam, attacked the houses and business establishments of AL leaders Md Nurul Islam, his brother Rafiqul Islam and others, who are loyal to the MP, on Friday following an altercation over recent attack on a teacher of Government Muminunnessa Mohila College.
