Police detained two online journalists while "demanding extortion" from a drug store in the capital's Mirpur yesterday.

Arrested Golam Mostafa, 36, claimed himself as the editor of online portal "crimenewsbd.com" while Ruman Chowdhury, 40, identified himself as a senior correspondent of the portal.

Sub-inspector Pradip Kumar Saha of Mirpur Police Station said the two took away one carton of medicine worth around Tk 5,000 from Genial Unani Laboratories at Kolaurapara of Mirpur-1 on Saturday terming the drugs "adulterated".

Around 4:00pm yesterday, the two persons went to the drug store again and demanded Tk 50,000 from its owner Abdur Rashid over the phone and said that they found the drugs "adulterated by laboratory tests." The duo also threatened to publish reports if they were not given the demanded money, said the police officer.

On information, police rushed to the store and detained them with their motorcycle.
