The staff of Barisai University went on an indefinite strike yesterday protesting an attack on some of them allegedly by a group of students who are demonstrating for various academic facilities.

On Wednesday, the students released Vice Chancellor Harunor Rashid Khan after keeping him confined to his office for 12 hours following his assurance in writing of meeting all the demands. The students brought out a "victory procession" on the campus yesterday noon, and some of them ransacked the registrar's office and assaulted four staff, including Assistant Registrar Bahauddin Golap, an allegation of the staff the students denied. A probe body was formed.
