The Election Commission yesterday upheld the cancellation of Rafiur Rabbi's independent candidacy in Narayanganj-5 by-poll after hearing his appeal.

Rabbi, father oflanwir Muhammed Taqi, who was found killed in March last year, told The Daily Star that he would go to court against the verdict. On Sunday, the returning officer cancelled Rabbi's nomination on grounds of Ioan default. Besides, there were two fake signatures in Rabbi's list of signatures of one percent electors of the constituency, which is mandatory for every independent candidacy seeker to collect. The by-poll is scheduled to be held on June 26.
