The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Kurigram yesterday granted remand for two suspended police constables and their source in a case for kidnapping an NGO official on April 30.

Constable Atiquzzaman of Detective Branch (DB) of police, constables Mamunur Rashid and Shah Alom of court police and DB police 'source' Manu Maker jointly kidnapped Maidul Islam, director of NGO Gram Lin nay an Sangatha in Roumari upazila of Kurigram district, from Kurigram town at around 6:00pm on April 30, police said.

Maidul's younger brother Liton lodged a complaint with Kurigram Sadar Police Station the same night.

The kidnappers took Maidul to a house of Mogalbasha union under Sadar upazila of the district and released him after receiving a big amount of money as ransom.

Police arrested constables Atiquzzaman and Mamunur Rashid and 'source' Manu Maker at around 11:55 pm the same night from Manu Maker's shop near Kurigram Poura Bazar area when they were distributing the ransom money among themselves. Constable Shah Alom managed to escape from the spot.

Maidul Islam's younger brother Liton filed an extortion case with Sadar Police Station against the kidnappers on Thursday noon and the arrestees were sent to jail through the court in the afternoon.

At 12:30pm yesterday, the chief judicial magistrate court granted one- day remand for Atiquzzaman, two days each for Mamunur Rashid and Manu Maker after police prayed for four-day remand for the three people, said Sohrab Hossen, court inspector of police.
