Unidentified miscreants shot a man dead in the capital's Mohammadpur yesterday.

Anisur Rahman, 40, was a shop owner at a supermarket at Dhanmondi.

Rahman was gunned down in front of his house at Bosila of Mohammadpur around 7:00am, said Mozammel Haque, inspector of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp.

Motive behind the killing could not be known. Police are yet to open an investigation as no case was filed in this connection as of last night.

Sujan, a neighbour of Rahman, claimed he heard a lot of noise and went downstairs to find bullet-hit Rahman lying on the road.

"I drove him to Dhaka Medical where doctors declared him dead around 8:00am," he said.

Victim's nephew Shimul said a neighbour had seen a man taking tea at a tea stall nearby, with a gun peeping out from under his shirt.

"My uncle was shot after he dropped off his children, aged 10 and six years, to school," said Shimul.

He alleged that someone must have tipped the killers that Anisur would be getting out of the house at that time to drop his children to school, because usually the mother took them.

"My aunt was very sick, so my uncle had to go," said Shimul.
