Police on Wednesday night arrested two of the accused in the case for killing BALI (Bangladesh Agricultural University) student Saad I b n e y M o m t a j a from Patgudam area of Mymensingh.

The arrestees are Sujoy Kumar Kundu, ex- organising secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Ashraful Haque Hall unit of the university, and party activist Md Rukonuzzaman Rukon.

Police arrested them following a case filed by the university authorities with Mymensingh Sadar Police Station the same night.

Sujoy and Rokon were produced in a court that sent them to jail.

Contacted, Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Rafiqul Hoque said process is on to

expel the students involved in the killing of Saad.

Students of the university staged demonstration on the campus for the second day yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all the accused in Saad murder case.

Thousands of students of all faculties boycotted their classes and examinations in the morning and staged a sit-in in front of the administrative building.

Expressing solidarity with the agitating students, Bangladesh Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) also brought out a procession on the campus, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of Saad.

A gang of 10 to 12 BCL activists, led by Sujoy Kumar Kundu and Rukonuzzaman Rokon, called Saad, a final

year student of the fisheries faculty, to room No 205/A of the dormitory around 6:30pm on Monday and beat him up brutally with hockey sticks, cricket stumps and iron rods.

As the victim's condition deteriorated, the attackers called in Dr Abul Kalam Azad of the university healthcare centre. The physi-cian sent Saad to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment.

On information, police on Tuesday morning went to the Trauma Centre in the town and found the body of the BALI student. Law enforcers sent the body to the MMCH for an autopsy.

Sources at Trauma Centre said some students admitted Saad to the centre around 6:30am on Tuesday. But he succumbed to his injuries around ll:00arn.
