Terming vote rigging and irregularities in the recently concluded upazila elections a "stigma" in the history of the country's democracy, some 250 Dhaka University teachers of pro-BNP-Jamaat white panel issued a statement yesterday.

We deeply condemn ballot box stuffing, rigging and irregularities in the elections, the statement reads. Referring to the comment of acting election commissioner about the participation of BNP in the upazila elections, it says the comment is "unacceptable and indecent". The remark is completely against the spirit of the constitution.

The role of the Election Commission in the upazila polls has proved that they are accomplices of the ruling party, it adds.
