Youth 'abducted' in Khagrachhari

Driver of a battery run three-wheeler was 'abducted' by a gang from Aparajita Buddhist Temple area in the district town on Friday night. The victim was identified as Mohammad Abu Tahar, 28, of Mohammadpur area of the town. Quoting family members, officer in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar police station Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said, Abu Tahar went 'missing' around 10:00pm of Friday after he went to Aparajita Buddhist Temple area from Shapla Chattar area to drop some passengers. The three-wheeler was found in the temple area. His family members alleged that he was abducted by local criminals, the OC said, adding that police were trying to find and rescue the victim.

BSF detains 2 Bangladeshis

Border Security Force (BSF) of India arrested two Bangladeshis at Taltala frontier of Maida district in Paschimbanga, opposite to Kormudanga border in Sapahar upazila in Naogaon yesterday morning. The arrestees were identified as Arif Hossain, 27, son of Daud Hossain and Humayun Kabir, 25, son of Rezaul Islam of Kormudanga village under Sapahar upazila in Naogaon. Major Jasimuddin, Deputy Commanding Officer of 46, Potnitala BGB Battalion in Naogaon, said two Bangladeshi citizens — Arif and Humayun — crossed into India illegally at around 7:00am through Kormudanga border. When duo reached Taltala, a BSF team detained them and handed them over to Bamandanga police station.

Hartal in Netrakona tomorrow

District BNP has called a daylong hartal in the district on Monday, demanding withdrawal of death penalty sentence and unconditional release of former state minister Lutfuzzaman Babor. Lutfuzzaman Babor was sentenced to death along with 13 others in the case for 10 trucks arms smuggling. Ashrafuddin Khan, president of Netrakona district BNP and general secretary Abu TaherTalukder declared the hartal programme at a protesting rally held yesterday in front of their office at Chotobazarin the town.
