Pro-Awami league Blue Panel teachers swept the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (Duta) election yesterday.

The Blue Panel teachers bagged nine posts of the 15-member executive committee while its contestant, pro-BNP-Jamaat White Panel, got the remaining posts.

Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed and Prof ASM Maksud Kamal from Blue Panel were elected president and general secretary defeating ProfTajmeri Selima Akhter Islam and Prof Mamun Ahmed from White Panel respectively.

From Blue Panel, Prof Shibli Rubayat ul Islam was elected as treasurer defeating his rival Prof Anisur Rahman.

Pro-AL Prof Ziaur Rahman won the post of joint secretary defeating Prof Dwilip Kumar Barua. The post of vice president was won by White Panel's Prof Akhter Hossain Khan who contested against Blue Panel's Prof ABM Faruque behind.

The elected members from White Panel are Prof Laila Noor, Prof Lutfor Rahman, Prof Abul Hasnat, Prof Sadrul Amin, Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, while elected members from Blue Panel are Prof Abul Barkat, Prof AKM Golam Rabbani, Prof Akhteruzzaman, Prof Sabita Rahman, Prof Golam Rabbani.

A total of 1,388 teachers out of 1,779 cast their votes from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Dhaka University Teachers' Club.

AK Fazlul Haque Shah, professor of marketing department, conducted the election and announced the results in the evening.
