Police yesterday evening recovered a tied up body, disfigured from burns and allegedly of a Union Parishad chairman who went missing on Tuesday night, from a straw field in South Keraniganj, adjacent to the capital.

The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College for an autopsy while a DNA test would also be conducted, said South Keraniganj Police Station OC Jamal Uddin Meer. Atiqullah Chowdhury, 68, convener of Awami League's Konda Union Parishad, was last seen coming out from one Aslam Sikder's Hasnabad residence, said his brother, Newaz Ali Chowdhury. His family filed a general diary. Newaz said Atiqullah had disputes with some locals centring politics and properties.
