Chargsheet in murder case

Police on Tuesday pressed charges against four people in the case for killing a college student last year. The charge sheeted accused are Rushed Anan alias Shargo, 22, son of late LakatZiladar, Ashraf Ali, 59, son of late Gias Ziladarof Thanthania Shaheed Nagar, Shohei Rana alias Rana, 20, son of Bachchu Mia of Thanthania and Touhid Munna, 22, son of Alam alias Bagha of Malgram of the district town. On Junel2 last year, Niranjan Chakrabarty Dipu, 18, son of Khokan Chakroabrty of Koipara area of the town was stabbed to death in Thanthania Shaheed Nagar area. He was a student of Government Shah Sultan College in the town. Father of the deceased then filed a case with Sadar police station against several people, including Sargo and Rana, in connection with the killing. Later, police arrested Rana in the town, said investigation officerofthecaseAriful Islam, sub-inspector of DB.

Hilsa seized at border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 1250 kgs of hilsa worth Tk 8.75 from Sadipur bordering area in the district yesterday morning. 26 BGB commanding officer Lt Col Matiur Rahman said, acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of BGB raided the area and seized the hilsa fish while they were being smuggled to India at 5:30am. However, the smugglers managed to flee, sensing the presence of the border guards. A case was filed in this connection.

'Punish Mufu's killers'

Family members of slain Jubo League leader Mahfuzur Rahman Mafu here on Monday demand punishment of the killers. They raised the demand at a condolence meeting marking the first death anniversary of Mafu at Chakpailanpur village. Abdur Razzak Masum, president of Ward no 12 AL and elder brother of Mafu, presided over the meeting attended by vice president of district unit AL Abul Kalam Azad, activists Ratan Mandol and Motiul Islam Mukta among others. “Charge sheet has been submitted accusing eight people who are now on bail. The accused are continuously threatening us”, said Masum. On October 7 last year, Mahfuzur Rahman Mafu, 40, vice president of Pabna district unit Jubo League and resident of Chak-Pailanpur village, was stabbed to death in a conflict over establishing supremacy in the area.
