Leaders of both the Fenchuganj upazila units of Awami League and BNP at a rally yesterday demanded immediate arrest of the killers of two brothers in the upazila in Sylhet on Saturday.

Md Shaokat Ali, upazila AL president Abdul Basin Tutul, upazilaAL general secretary, andToslim Ahmed Nihar, upazila BNP general secretary, among others, addressed the rally.

A Sylhet court on Monday sent an AL leader and two others to jail in a case filed in this connection.

They are Abdur Rouf, joint secretary of Fenchuganj upazila AL unit; Mahbubur Rahman Fuad, Roufs son; and Shakil Ahmed, Roufs nephew.

Brothers Shahin and Shamim were hacked to death on Saturday night

Their elder brother Shakil Khan filed the case on Sunday night accusing 13 people including the three.

Shakil alleged that Roufs son and others had killed his brothers over previous enmity.

On Saturday night Shahin had an altercation with a friend of Sohag, another son of Rouf, as the friend drove his motorbike recklessly and hit a pedestrian in the upazila, said police

Following this, Sohag along with other youths rushed to the spot and hacked Shahin and later Shamim, as he tried to save his brother, with sharp weapons. The siblings were declared dead at the upazila health complex the same night.
