In order to uncover the causes of Mita Noor's suicide, which has been confirmed by the primary autopsy report, police are tracking the call lists of the TV actress and her husband and recording statements of their families, relatives and acquaintances.

"We have met her family members, in-laws, parents, siblings and relatives and talked to around 12 people in all," investigation officer Anwara Akhter, a sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station, told The Daily Star yesterday.

"Though her family has denied allegations of extramarital affairs, it is being highlighted a lot in the media. That's why we're tracking the couple's call lists, ” she said.

The SI said the primary post-mortem report referred to her death as suicide but also mentioned injury marks in different parts of her body. "Mita's family, however, claimed that the injury marks were from an accident during filming of a drama on June 23."

Anwara said yesterday, "We will talk to the driver, housemaids and other acquaintances tomorrow."

Police recovered the hanging body of the 42-year-old actress on July 1 from her Gulshan apartment where she lived with her husband Shahanur Rahman Majumder, two sons and two housemaids.

On June 29, Gulshan police had to mediate a row between the couple at Shahanur's office in the capital's Niketan.

Though Mita's father Fazlur Rahman said Mita had attempted suicide earlier, her mother Morium Sarker continued denying it. They also dismissed any serious marital problems.

"We, however, suspect that a family feud might have led to Mita's unnatural death," said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station. Shahanur and Mita got married 24 years ago.
