It was a satisfactory night for the capacity crowd as Chittagong Kings finally emerged victorious in their home city with a comfortable eight-wicket tS win over the Khulna Royal Bengals in the second match of the Bangladesh Premier League at the MA Aziz Stadium last night.

On the back of four defeats in five matches, it was Brendan Taylor who came out for the toss with regular Chittagong Kings captain Mahmudullah Riyad apparently needing a break to ease the pressure. For his part, the Zimbabwean led his team from the front to ensure their second win in the competition after their 21-run victory against the Barisal Burners in Khulna. The win came despite the absence of a popular face from the Chittagong dugout; Brian Lara quietly left Bangladesh yesterday.

Taylor though, entertained the cheering crowd by smashing seven fours and a six in his unbeaten 49-ball 69 which helped the Kings reach the 137 run target with two overs to spare. Netherlands batsman Ryan ten Doeschate T gave his captain the perfect support as he I was not out on 41 off 34 balls with one four I and two sixes.

Earlier, a late surge helped Khulna to put I up a decent total of 136 after being sent I into bat first. At one stage, reaching three “ figures even seemed a distant reality for Khulna as they were stranded on 49 for three at the end of ten overs. Left-arm spinner Enamul Haque troubled them most taking three wickets at a vital stage but Mahmudullah Riyad also helped with his off-spin to tighten the grip as he conceded only 13 runs in three overs.

Khulna however bounced back through late hitting from RikiWessels (35 off 32 balls), Travis Birt (25 off 17 balls) and Daniel Harris (22 not out off 17 balls). West Indian pacer Kevon Cooper however bowled brilliantly in the death.

Chittagong Kings not only dropped few catches but also gave too many extra runs. Thankfully for their fans it was not to prove decisive in the final reckoning.
