'Sahitya Adda' (an open literary session) on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, titled 'Nazrul Sandha', was held recently at Nazrul Pathagar (library) in Panchagarh. The event included song renditions, a discussion and recitation.

The programme featured lively exchange of questions and answers between the discussant and literature enthusiasts on NazruTs life and works.

Nazrul's lyrics, poems and inspiring music against inequality and repression moved the people gathered during the three-hour programme.

The programme began with a Nazrul song, “Phooier Jalshaye Nirab Keno Kobi”, performed by a local artiste Satyendranath Roy.

Then came several solo renditions by Trishna Bonik, Dhanesh Chandra Roy and Mostak Ur Rahman.

Nazrul to Nargis that followed a recitation of "Sabyashachi” by Deputy Commissioner Tofazzel Hossain Miah.

Abu Hazzad Tanin, Namrata, Ehteshamul Haque and Mizanur Rahman also recited different poems of Nazrul while Ariful Islam and Ayesha Siddika recited their self-composed poems on the 'Rebel Poet'.

The main discussant of the programme was Deputy Commissioner Md. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, who spoke briefly about the works of the poet and his contributions to uphold human welfare and communal harmony in society.

Former principal and also Professor of Bangla, Md. Giasuddin; president of Panchagarh Sahitya Shangshad, Ariful Islam; and Mokhlesur Rahman participated in the discussion on the poet.

The discussants urged all concerned to take steps to properly evaluate the poet and conduct more research on him.
